State partners with Australia to enhance early childhood education

September 2, 2024

SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — Selangor has collaborated with Australia’s Technical and Further Education Victoria to offer a micro-certification course in early childhood education.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the programme, expected to be launched later this year, will involve some 30 childcare providers who will undergo short courses with the institution.

“We will implement this with a training-of-trainers approach, where participants are trained to become effective trainers or facilitators for others.

“Childcare providers who attend this short course will receive certification in early childhood education, and can later be trainers for other childcare providers.

“In addition to enhancing the skills of childcare providers, especially those working from home, this programme will also strengthen the early childhood education ecosystem in the state,” she told Media Selangor.

Meanwhile, Anfaal said 660 home-based childcare providers have been trained under the Selangor Early Childhood Care and Education Caretaker (Impak) programme.

She said participants receive guidance through the Children’s Development Incentive Course (KIPK).

“Impak is one of our efforts to identify home-based childcare givers, specifically those caring for up to three children.

“So far, we have conducted around 10 sessions, and will continue to ensure more childcare providers benefit from the course,” she said.

The state government aims for 1,000 childcare providers to undergo the Impak training programme this year.

Those interested can register on the Impak website. Participants must meet five main requirements, and those selected to undergo free KIPK training each stand a chance to receive grants worth RM2,000.
