SHAH ALAM, Nov 19 — Selangor is reviewing appropriate measures to ensure the smooth and efficient disbursement of RM1,000 assistance to beneficiaries under the Khairat Darul Ehsan scheme.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said actions like collaborating with the National Registration Department (JPN) will be implemented to ensure only eligible beneficiaries can make claims.
“This is crucial as we do not want unauthorised individuals (who are not legitimate beneficiaries) to make claims. At the same time, we aim to simplify the process to ease the burden on families managing funeral arrangements.
“The state government is committed to addressing this matter diligently. This scheme reflects the state’s determination to support its people, especially when some areas charge up to RM1,200 for funeral management,” she said.
Anfaal was responding to Permatang state assemblyman Nurul Syazwani Noh’s supplementary query on implementing and reviewing the scheme during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today.
The 2025 Selangor Budget has allocated RM20 million to implement the scheme starting on June 1 next year, benefiting 20,000 individuals aged 50 and above as well as disabled persons.
Previously, the funeral assistance for senior citizens under the Skim Mesra Usia Emas initiative was discontinued in May 2019 before being reinstated in 2021.
