Selangor prepping special grant to help unregistered nursery operators — Exco

November 7, 2024

SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 — The state government will introduce a special grant for unregistered nursery operators in the state to register services and operations online starting next month.

State executive councillor for women’s empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said via the special grant, nursery operators will receive a maximum of RM5,000 from the total allocation of RM400,000 provided through the special grant.

“As of last July, the inspection committee for unregistered nurseries under the Selangor Social Welfare Department (JKM) revealed that 128 unregistered nurseries were operating in Selangor.

“The number has decreased compared to 407 last year and 600 nurseries in 2022 as a result of the legitimisation (registration) programme carried out,” she said at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Selangor Nursery Service Advocacy Programme today.

Earlier in her speech, Anfaal said many benefits will be obtained by registered daycare operators, including tax exemptions and special incentives from the government.

“Similarly, if there are corporate companies interested in creating corporate social responsibility programmes (in collaboration with a childcare centre), registered nurseries will definitely be their choice,” she said.

Anfaal added that so far, there are about 3,000 nurseries registered with JKM nationwide, with 1,004 in Selangor.

Out of that number, five areas in the state recorded the highest number of nurseries, namely Petaling, Hulu Langat, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, and Gombak.
